I have the honour to ask that the following report on the Staff of the British Post Office, Shanghai, and recommendations for increase, may be forwarded to the Government for early submission to the Secretary of State.
The Staff excluding the linese) consists of the Postuseter, Senior Clark and 2 other Clerks.
The Postmaster has charge of the Department, keeps the Account: adesivas Contract Mails, despatches Contract Mails, assists in sorting looks after registered letters and parcels in Poste Restante and un- oleland and Pod Liters, superviss closing of ontract ails on. ate.
Eh Chief Clerk has charge of Money Order work, deals with unpaid correspondence and makes up boxholder's accounts, makes up parcel mails for the United Kingdom, closes registered mails by Contract Packets, deals with town portion of inward mails, closes London and London Forward mails, prepares pay-sheets etc.
The second clerk closes all mails, including registered, for the ports, Japan, U.S.A. assists to close mails by Contract Pagkets sorts and assists generally.
The third clerk gives out receipts for registered letters and parcels received at the window, taxes, sorts and assists generally.
The time of each officer is so fully occupied that there is no one to attend to Poste Restante, to clear the drop box, to deal with books and papers received without covers, to chock registry journals, Cornewall Lewis Escr.
